C.S.YES!: Comprehensive Storage system by George Nelson & Associates-

The comprehensive storage system or CSS was designed by the Nelson office in 1959 for Herman Miller. A versatile modular storage system, standardised components could be slotted into upright struts held in place by the floor and ceiling. The CSS was the continuation of a concept from the early days of Nelson’s career. In 1945 he wrote an article for Life magazine on ‘the storage wall’, his concept of building as much storage as possible into the fabric of the building to save space. It was actually this Life article that first got the attention of D.J De Pree the head of Herman Miller. They snapped him up soon after to replace the recently deceased director of design Gilbert Rhode. (A shrewd move, as had the storage wall taken off, it could have reduced demand for Herman Miller’s own storage products. what’s the saying… Friends close, enemies closer!)
I LOVE the CSS but unfortunately it was only in production for a short time which means rare examples often command high prices.
